About The Village Stitchery Shop
The seeds of my love for counted cross-stitch were planted when I was 16 years old. I had purchased an inexpensive kit at a local department store and began to connect with my creative self. From that first kit, I began to work on various forms of needle art throughout
the years.
After working in other businesses for several years my entrepreneurial self began to take over. My passion had grown and developed from a relaxing and rewarding hobby into a desire to expand my horizons and create my own business.
In 1997 a business opportunity arose where I could connect my personal passion with my goal of becoming an independent business woman. I bought an existing counted cross stitch business. I found a small building in Mifflinburg that I rented. It housed my passion for the next five years.
In 2004, I bought the building I had been dreaming about for years. Originally built in 1871, The Vicksburg Public School had been a one-room schoolhouse until 1948. The next owners had made it into a home. Even now, the old classic structure still has its charm and character. Today the building has five rooms set up according to themes and visual displays of my own finished needlework models.
I have formed so many wonderful relationships and friendships since opening my store that are more than just customers. I believe if I help someone else expand his or her creative self and send them on their way with the knowledge and confidence that they can do more, than I have gained a greater reward than money.
In the end, I believe that it is all good karma. It’s not only about counted cross-stitch. Needle art is only a tool, a vehicle, a way of expressing one’s creative inner self. If I can bring out those talents in others then I will have achieved my reward.
